On November 21, the 2017 Regular Fall Semester Symposium of the Korea University (KU) Graduate School of Labor Studies (KUGSLS) and the KU Institute for Research on Labor and Employment was held at the International Studies Hall. Authorities from various institutes, including the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, visited the forum and delivered their visions on the topic of ¡°Seeking for Korea¡¯s Social Conversations.¡±

¡°The utmost goal of our community is to establish the right kind of social conversation between the members. Social conversations lead to cooperation, compromise, and ultimately, social integration. We should progress beyond the challenges of industrialization and democratization and ultimately head to an era of cooperation. No developed country was made without social conversations. Everyone should be earnest and eager in order to develop themselves along with others,¡± said Professor Dae Yop Cho (Department of Sociology), the Dean of KUGSLS, stressing the importance of social conversations.

After the opening remark, presentation and debate sessions were conducted with the moderation by Professor Lee Byung Hoon (Department of Sociology, Choong-Ang University). Two speakers, Park Myung Joon from the Korea Labor Institute and Kim Ki Woo from FKTU gave presentations regarding how the labor, the management, and the government should take their stance in order to tackle the challenges of the labor society. The forum ended with a comprehensive debate to seek for the chance of Korea¡¯s progression on establishing social conversations.
