Study space inside the College of Political Science and Economics (Provided by Korea University College of Political Science and Economics)

The College of Political Science and Economics (KUPE) will be remodeled in June 2024, 20 years after its last reconstruction. Roof construction will be carried out from late March to May, and internal architectural conversion is arranged to take place during the summer vacation when the building will not be accessible. The main changes include the expansion of the professors’ and graduate students’ laboratory rooms, comprehensive interior improvements, and the addition of a smart classroom and seminar room. While meant to solve space allocation issues, the plan has raised concerns about suitable relocations of students’ autonomous spaces and the capacity of lecture rooms, considering the high volume of attendants in most courses conducted under the College.

The estimated total budget for reconstruction is 10 billion South Korean Won (KRW). Correspondingly, the College’s announcement on regular donation applications for remodeling the building emphasizes promoting KUPE’s core values – high-tech education, research, and service programs – through facilities and infrastructure improvements. Aruna Rajeev (‘21, Political Science and International Relations) expresses her anticipation about the upcoming modern improvements in classrooms: “While our current lecture rooms are also good, it is high time for KUPE to install technological features that will benefit students’ learning experience, especially for a department with as many large-scale classes and seminars as KUPE.”
